The City of Tustin, sometimes referred to as “The City of Trees”, was incorporated in 1927, making it one of the oldest cities in Orange County. Like many of its surrounding cities, Tustin’s was first developed as ranch land after the Spanish government granted Jose Antonio Yorba 62,500 acres of land in 1801. The ranch land was later sold off in pieces and the area that is now known as Tustin was divided into 1300 acres and purchased by Columbus Tustin, a carriage maker from Northern California, in 1870.
The area that is now known as Old Town Tustin was established in the 1880s. It was then, and is now, a commercial center that runs along Main Street and El Camino Real. Many of the historic buildings from the olden days have been preserved and can be seen by taking a walking tour of Old Town and following the signs, which illustrate more than 120 years of Tustin’s history.
