Laguna Hills was originally part of a major land grant that was given to loyal friends of the Mexican government after Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1821. The city itself is located on what was formerly known as Rancho Niguel, which was purchased by Lewis Moulton in 1874.
Laguna Hills was incorporated as a city in 1991 and annexed what was then known as North Laguna Hills in 2000. Today, Laguna Hills covers just over 6 square miles of land, and is home to more than 30,000 people.
One of Laguna Hills’ more well-known pieces of real estate is Nellie Gale Ranch, a planned community consisting of 1355 lots on 1350 acres. Nellie Gale Ranch contains a mixture of tract and custom homes in an equestrian setting. The density of homes in Nellie Gale Ranch is limited and it remains one of only a few communities in Orange County that is zoned for large lots and equestrian trails.
