How do I find a real estate agent to help me with the sale of my home?

It seems like real estate agents are everywhere these days. It’s hard to open your mailbox or drive through a neighborhood without seeing an advertisement from a real estate agent. Did you know that in the last 5 years, the number of real estate agents in California has increased by more than 35%?

Why do you think that is?
One reason is that selling real estate can be very lucrative. Most real estate agents charge a 3% commission to help you sell your home. In January 2008, the average sale price of a home in California was $550,900. So in an average sale, a real estate agent will make more than $15,000 in commission.

If you want to find a real estate agent who will charge you 3% commission, it’s not hard. You’ll find hundreds of them in the yellow pages. You can also ask your friends for a referral if you know anyone who has sold their home recently.
