Is it worth it to spend $100,000 more and buy in Irvine vs. Tustin? If so, why?

I don't think the city matters as much as finding the home that meets your criteria. So when you ask whether it "worth" spending more to live in Irvine vs. Tustin, it is important to know how you are going to measure the worth of your new home.

For example, are you looking to purchase a home that will the best real estate investment? If so, over what time frame.

If resale value is not your primary concern, then maybe it is something like having a home that is close to a park or school.

Maybe affordability is your primary concern. If so, then looking at HOA dues, tax rates and whether the property is subject to Mello Roos, would be an important criteria in determining a home's worth to you.
